Sibanthracite Plants 800,000 Trees in Siberia in 2024

In 2024, Sibanthracite Group coal mining companies planted 785,000 coniferous trees on forest lands in Novosibirsk and Kemerovo Regions, while landscaping public spaces in nearby communities as well.

The Kolyvansky and Vostochny Open-Pit Mines planted 400,000 Scots pine seedlings on an area spanning 109 hectares in Novosibirsk Region’s Kuibyshev, Maslyaninsky, and Toguchinsky Districts. In the north of Kuzbass, 330,000 Siberian spruce trees were planted on an area of 110 hectares in the Chebulinsky District by the Verkhneteshsky Open-Pit Mine. The planting was carried out as part of compensatory reforestation on lands that have been afflicted by fires or logging.

The Verkhneteshsky Open-Pit Mine planted another 15,000 trees on land previously occupied by a slagheap in the town of Anzhero-Sudzhensk, as well as 40,000 trees to recultivate formerly mined lands. In accordance with the obligations that the Group assumed when obtaining its license to use the Verkhneteshsky site in the Novokuznetsk District, the company has planted coniferous tree seedlings on land that had been occupied by the former Voskhod mine’s slagheap and mining works.

The Group is actively involved in landscaping communities in the areas where it operates. In 2024, thousands of trees were planted in the parks, squares, and yards in Novosibirsk Region’s villages of Linevo and Urgun, as well as at Yevsino Station. In Kuzbass, plantings took place in the village of Atamanovo, where the local square was improved, and in the town of Myski, where a green strip appeared next to the community center.

The Sibanthracite Group has planted about 5 million trees in Siberia since 2018.
