The final of the Big Challenges science and technology contest was held at the Altair educational centre. It was attended by 114 high school students who presented projects covering 13 areas. The winners of the regional stage of the contest in the Modern Energy category were Anton Simutin, a 10th-grade student, Dmitry Kovin, an 11th-grade student and Maxim Fetisov, an 8th-grade student.
Maxim Fetisov, a student of the school in Talmenka, started to work on his project in summer 2021 when he took part in the “Take a Step” game which was organized with the support of Sibanthracite. He suggested an alternative energy source for lampposts at the waste dumps for mining enterprises.
The children’s mentor was an expert from Sibanthracite Dmitry Abramov, head of the substation maintenance division. Dmitry noted that the children worked on very serious and topical problems. “There was great interest and careful attitude to the projects. It was very useful for the guys to communicate with us as production workers, to see and imagine how their ideas could work at a real enterprise. The projects can really be useful in practice”, said Dmitry.
