Sibanthracite Group Employees Take Part in Mass Tree Planting

Coal miners greened up Linevo’s village square with the help of local government figures and eco-activists

Coniferous and deciduous trees have been planted in Linevo at the initiative of the village’s eco-activists. Taking part were employees of the Sibanthracite Group, deputies from Linevo, and volunteers from the  ‘Green Squad’, as well as deputies from Novosibirsk Region’s Legislative Assembly. The participants gathered to green up the village square, where locals like to relax. Vostochny Open-Pit Mine, which is part of the Sibanthracite Group, allocated 525,000 rubles to purchase the mountain ash and Siberian spruce saplings that were planted there.

Linevo’s municipal authorities will care for the trees throughout the year with the help of Sibanthracite Group employees. In particular, the saplings will be watered and fertilized during the spring-summer period.

A large number of volunteers of different ages joined in the effort this time. Many had taken part in such plantings before and plan to continue to do so in the spring and summer. Sibanthracite’s management intends to increase the number of volunteers and attract new ones.

One of the participants from the last tree planting was Vostochny Open-Pit Mine’s chief engineer, Mikhail Spiridonov, who regularly initiates ecological projects and takes part in all of the company’s environmental activities:

“As representatives of a coal mining company, we understand the importance of environmental problems and try to green the territories near the mine whenever possible. Today we have all united to set an example for others. After all, picking up a shovel and planting a tree is not that difficult and doesn’t take much time, but we will enjoy the results for many decades to come.”

Vostochny Open-Pit Mine’s employees don’t only plant trees during events organized by the company. Last summer, a group of proactive workers entered their own green project in the Sibanthracite Group’s ‘Region of Opportunities’ grant competition and received support from the panel of judges.

With the allotted funds, the group created a landscape design with surveyors, prepared holes, purchased more than 200 shrubs and flowers, and planted them in the Village of Linevo.
